Tiz Flirtatious wins Santa Ana Stakes
ARCADIA, Calif. -- Tiz Flirtatious beat even-money favorite Lady of Shamrock by a length to win the $150,000 Santa Ana Stakes at Santa Anita on Sunday.
Ridden for the first time by Julien Leparoux, Tiz Flirtatious ran 1 1/8 miles on the turf in 1:46.62 and paid paid $6, $2.80 and $2.20 as the 6-1 second choice.
Lady of Shamrock broke awkwardly at the rail, trailed throughout and rallied boldly turning for home to finish second under Mike Smith. She paid $2.40 and $2.10 Quiet Oasis was another head back in third and returned $3 to show.
Leparoux got the mount when Rafael Bejarano, the regular rider of Tiz Flirtatious, rode at Sunland Park in New Mexico on Sunday.
"Julien rode a great race," winning trainer Marty Jones. "She looked like she wanted to get a little keen and Julien's just got a great way of getting a horse to relax."
Tiz Flirtatious earned $90,000, increasing her career winnings to $424,800, with six wins in nine starts.
