10-1 shot Lady of Fifty scores upset at Del Mar
DEL MAR, Calif. -- Lady of Fifty rallied to win the $300,000 Clement L. Hirsch Stakes for older fillies and mares by 1½ lengths at Del Mar on Saturday.
Ridden by Corey Nakatani, Lady of Fifty ran 1 1/16 miles on the synthetic surface in 1:42.96 and paid $23.20, $10.20 and $5.80. She was next-to-last in the nine-horse field early in the race before rallying widest of any to win.
More Chocolate returned $5.60 and $4, while Byrama was another half-length back in third and paid $3.80 to show. Include Me Out, the defending champion and even-money favorite, finished eighth.
The victory, worth $180,000, increased Lady of Fifty's career earnings to $593,000, with seven wins in 16 starts. She earned an automatic berth in the Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic in November at Santa Anita as a result of her win.
Trainer John Sadler had three winners on the card and leads the trainers' standings with 14 wins.
