Justin Phillip wins Vanderbilt

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Justin Phillip beat Bahamian Squall by two lengths Sunday in the $400,000 Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap at Saratoga Race Course.

Ridden by John Velazquez and trained by Steve Asmussen, the 5-year-old sprinter who joined the battle inside the quarter pole and took the lead leaving the sixteenth pole.

Justin Phillip ran six furlongs in 1:08.59, earned $240,000 for Zayat Stable and pushed his career earnings past $1 million. Justin Phillip paid $8.30, $4.40 and $2.80.

Bahamian Squall returned $6.40 and $3, and Gentlemen's Bet, third of five, paid $2.80 to show.
