Sweet Reason wins Spinaway at Saratoga
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Sweet Reason romped to a six-length victory Sunday in the $300,000 Spinaway Stakes for 2-year-old fillies at Saratoga Race Course.
Ridden by Alex Solis, the Leah Gyamati-trained Sweet Reason ran 7 furlongs in 1:23.42 over the sloppy track and paid $7, $4.40 and $3.10.
"She was just doing her thing. She's so special," Solis said. "The other morning when I worked her, two horses broke off 6 lengths in front of her and by the 3/16th pole, she had caught them and blew by them. That's what she does. She is just having fun. She runs like she has done it her whole life. She won easily."
She earned $180,000 for Treadway Racing Stable.
"It was spectacular!" Gyarmati said. "Obviously, she ran impressively first time out when she won, but it was an off-the-turf race and the competition wasn't anywhere near what she faced today. So, this is thrilling to do what she did against horses that have proven they are very, very nice horses."
Stopchargingmaria returned $5.90 and $3.80, and Dancing House, third of nine, paid $6.20 to show.
