Tom's Tribute wins stakes at Santa Anita
ARCADIA, Calif. -- Tom's Tribute overhauled leader Rosengold inside the eighth pole to win the $70,000 Uniformity Stakes for 3-year-olds by 21/4 lengths at Santa Anita on Sunday.
Ridden by Hall of Famer Mike Smith, Tom's Tribute ran 6½ furlongs on the downhill turf course in 1:12.14 and paid $4, $2.80 and $2.40 as the even-money favorite in the field of six.
"This horse just keeps getting better with each and every race," said Smith, who is 3 for 3 on Tom's Tribute. "I was a little concerned about the hill, just because we have to cross the dirt. Sometimes he jumps a little. He looks around a lot of times, but he was professional crossing the dirt so I was very proud of him."
Rosengold returned $4 and $3, while Appealing Tale was another half-length back in third and paid $3 to show.
The victory, worth $43,260, increased Tom's Tribute's career earnings to $138,980, with three wins in six starts.
