Imagining wins Big A's Red Smith Handicap
NEW YORK -- Imagining rallied to beat Hangover Kid by a half-length Saturday in the $250,000 Red Smith Handicap on the turf at Aqueduct.
The 5-year-old chestnut earned his fourth win in six starts this season, improving to 7 for 14 overall. Riden by Joel Rosario, Imagining ran 1 3/8 miles in 2:18.43 over the firm course.
It was the third straight Red Smith victory for trainer Shug McGaughey and the Phipps Stable, winners in 2011 and 2012 with Boisterous.
Imagining paid $8.30, $4.70 and $4.10 as the 3-1 second choice. Hangover Kid, a 23-1 outsider, returned $16.20 and $9.70 while Tannery paid $4.30 to show.
