White Sox fire bench coach Raines
The defending champion White Sox on Friday announced that Raines was fired after serving his first season as the team's bench coach.
Despite going 90-72 - just nine wins shy of its victory total of 2005, its first World Series-winning season since 1917 - Chicago ended up third in the American League Central behind the Minnesota Twins (96-66) and the wild card-winning Detroit Tigers (95-67).
A former player with Chicago from 1991-95, Raines was hired in November 2004, serving as a first base coach in 2005.
The team also announced that the rest of the staff, including manager Ozzie Guillen, hitting coach Greg Walker and pitching coach Don Cooper, all will return for 2007.
