Wellemeyer and Royals agree at $635,000
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Pitcher Todd Wellemeyer and the Kansas City Royals agreed Tuesday to a $635,000, one-year contract.
The 28-year-old right-hander made $347,500 last year and had asked for $740,000 in arbitration. The Royals had offered $565,000.
He joined the Royals in the middle of last season after the Florida Marlins placed him on waivers. He went 1-2 with a team-leading 3.63 ERA in 28 relief appearances for Kansas City, allowing just 48 hits in 57.0 innings.
Kansas City also agreed to a minor league contract with right-hander Jason Standridge and invited him to spring training. Standridge has played for Tampa Bay, Texas and Cincinnati, splitting last season between the Reds and Triple-A Louisville.
