Blue Jays active Burnett, place League placed on DL
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Toronto activated right-hander A.J. Burnett, who has not pitched since June 28 because of a shoulder strain, from the disabled list Sunday to start against the Kansas City Royals.
Burnett was 5-6 with a 4.32 ERA in 15 starts this season. He's had two stints on the disabled list with shoulder strains.
To make roster space for Burnett, the Blue Jays placed right-hander Brandon League on the 15-day disabled list with a pulled oblique. League had not pitched since Aug. 4, giving up two runs and two hits with a walk in one-third of an inning against the Texas Rangers.
"It's been nagging him for the last few days," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said. "That's why he wasn't pitching."
League had a 6.75 ERA in seven relief appearances. He began the season on the disabled list with a shoulder injury and was not activated until July 15.
