Chicago Cubs hire former Pirates GM Dave Littlefield as scout
CHICAGO -- The Cubs hired former Pittsburgh Pirates general manager Dave Littlefield as a scout on Tuesday.
"We are extraordinarily pleased to add someone of Dave Littlefield's caliber to bolster our baseball operations efforts," Chicago general manager Jim Hendry said. "I've known Dave a long time and am confident that he will add valuable perspective and another experienced voice to our baseball operations department."
The 47-year-old Littlefield was fired as Pittsburgh's GM in September. He took over the team in July 2001.
The Cubs also promoted Pat Listach to manager at Triple-A Iowa. The 1992 AL Rookie of the Year with the Milwaukee Brewers, Listach spent the past two seasons managing Chicago's Double-A farm team.
Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg will return as manager at Class-A Peoria.
