LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Scott Proctor was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday by the Los Angeles Dodgers with an ailing right elbow.

The team originally announced that they were going to option Proctor to Triple-A Las Vegas, but then switched to the DL when it was revealed Proctor was injured.

The right-hander has been hurt about a month, but kept it from manager Joe Torre and the training staff. He has allowed 14 runs -- 11 earned -- over 8 2-3 innings over his last 11 appearances.

Proctor is 1-0 with a 6.82 ERA in 33 appearances.

Torre had the 31-year-old Proctor in his bullpen for parts of four seasons with the Yankees before he was traded to the Dodgers on July 31, 2007. Two years ago he made an AL-high 83 appearances and led all major league relievers with 102 1-3 innings in his first full big league campaign.

"Having a little history with Scott Proctor, knowing that the guy I was watching was not really what you've seen before and knowing that he would never acknowledge that anything was wrong, you can't just all of a sudden say there's something wrong. So we were going to option him," Torre said. "I just basically told him that he needs to work out what he needs to work out and get himself straightened out."

After some more prodding, Proctor came clean with Torre. An injured player cannot be optioned to the minors.

"You love him for his heart. He has a belly full of guts and all that stuff, but he doesn't always make the right choices," Torre said. "I know the timing sounds to some people like he's just doing that to keep from going to the minor leagues. But I know him better than that. He was even willing to go down to Vegas and pitch with the injury, which made no sense to me. It's all a Band-Aid."

The Dodgers recalled right-hander Brian Falkenborg from Triple-A to replace Proctor and moved backup catcher Gary Bennett from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL to open a spot for Falkenborg on the 40-man roster.
