Cardinals manager Matheny ejected
ST. LOUIS -- St. Louis manager Mike Matheny has been ejected by home plate umpire Kerwin Danley in the first inning of Saturday's game against Kansas City.
It was the second ejection of the season for the first-year manager; the first was April 24 at Chicago.
The umpiring crew, after a three-minute conference, ruled that St. Louis pitcher Joe Kelly did not catch a line drive from Eric Hosmer. Kelly, who felt he caught the ball before it hit the ground, threw to first and then immediately took a return throw and fired to second for what was initially ruled a triple play. The umpires, led by crew chief Dana DeMuth, met and reversed the ruling, indicating the ball first hit the ground.
