Rays place OF Joyce on DL with oblique strain
PHILADELPHIA -- The Tampa Bay Rays placed outfielder Matt Joyce on the 15-day disabled list Friday with an oblique strain.
Joyce left Tuesday's game against the Nationals with the injury. In 62 games this season, he was batting .279 with 11 homers and 34 RBIs.
Rays reliever Joel Peralta will drop his appeal and begin serving his eight-game suspension immediately for using a foreign substance on his glove in Tuesday's game against Washington.
Also, Tampa Bay reinstated INF Jeff Keppinger from the 15-day DL after missing 29 games with a broken right big toe, recalled right-hander Brandon Gomes from Triple-A Durham, claimed INF Brooks Conrad from waivers, optioned OF Rich Thompson to Durham and designated INF Drew Sutton for assignment.
