NEW YORK -- Kevin Youkilis is out of the New York Yankees' lineup for a sixth straight game because of back tightness, and the infielder could be headed to the disabled list if he is unable to play Saturday.

Manager Joe Girardi said Friday before the Yankees played the Blue Jays that Youkilis is getting better and he has not taken any tests.

Youkilis last played Saturday in Toronto, when he was lifted in the sixth inning with the back issue.

He was signed in the offseason to take the place of third baseman Alex Rodriguez, who is out until at least the All-Star break, even though he's been on the DL three times in past two seasons, twice because of his back.

The 34-year-old Youkilis is batting .279 with two homers and seven RBIs.
