NEW YORK -- Home plate umpire Brian O'Nora exited the Phillies-Mets game in the first inning Friday night because of flulike symptoms, resulting in a nine-minute delay.
The game was stopped while the Mets were batting in the bottom of the first. It resumed with three umpires after first base ump Adrian Johnson changed into his plate gear.
O'Nora headed to the Mets' dugout on the first base side after Daniel Murphy hit a grounder for the second out. O'Nora scooted through the bench and hurried down the steps leading to the clubhouses.
Managers Terry Collins of New York and Charlie Manuel of Philadelphia came onto the field to talk with umpires Fieldin Culbreth and Bill Welke during the delay. Phillies pitcher Kyle Kendrick warmed up while organ music played and ads were shown on the videoboard for this summer's All-Star game at Citi Field.
