Pirates activate RHP Jeanmar Gomez
SEATTLE -- The Pittsburgh Pirates have recalled right-handed pitcher Jeanmar Gomez from a rehab assignment and activated him from the 15-day disabled list to start Wednesday's game against the Seattle Mariners.
Gomez was placed on the disabled list on June 3 after leaving a start against the Cincinnati Reds with an inflamed and strained right forearm. He threw five innings of no-hit ball in his final rehab start for Triple-A Indianapolis. He takes a 2-0 record and 3.07 ERA to the mound to face off against Mariners starter Felix Hernandez (8-4, 2.71 ERA).
To make room for Gomez, the Pirates optioned right-handed reliever Duke Welker to Indianapolis. He pitched 1 1-3 scoreless innings in two appearances for Pittsburgh.
