AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- The Detroit Pistons have signed first-round draft pick Andre Drummond to a multiyear deal.
The team announced the deal Tuesday night but did not disclose terms. Drummond, a 6-foot-10, 270-pounder from Connecticut, averaged 10 points and 7.6 rebounds last season as an 18-year-old freshman.
Drummond still has some maturing to do at the offensive end -- he shot under 30 percent from the free throw line last season -- but the Pistons may not ask him to score much, at least at first. Drummond could give Detroit somebody who can protect the rim and play alongside the more offensively polished Greg Monroe down low.
