Thornton, William & Mary beat Hampton 69-51
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Marcus Thornton scored 24 points on 7-of-11 shooting to help William & Mary beat Hampton 69-51 Saturday night in the season opener for both teams.
Thornton hit six 3-pointers and added four rebounds to go along with two blocks. He helped the Tribe take a 29-22 lead into halftime.
Hampton struggled shooting the ball, hitting 31.7 percent for the game and connecting on only 2 of 16 shots from behind the arc.
The Tribe got contributions from several players as they extended the lead in the second half.
Tim Rusthoven scored 18 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had three steals, while Brandon Britt added 17 points to go along with four assist and three steals.
William & Mary shared the ball, recording 20 assist on 20 made field goals.
Hampton was led by Ke'Ron Brown and Du'Vaughn Maxwell with 10 points each.
