Marist wins 2nd straight, 69-64 over Loyola (Md.)
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Adam Kemp scored 23 points and Chavaughn Lewis 21 as Marist defeated Loyola (Md.) 69-64 Sunday, preventing the Greyhounds from tying Niagara for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference lead.
Kemp also grabbed 13 rebounds as the Red Foxes (7-18, 4-10) were able to build on the momentum of their wild 105-104 win over Iona in two overtimes Thursday night. That win ended a stretch of 12 losses in 13 games.
Marist led 63-56 with 2:31 remaining, but Loyola cut the margin to one point, 63-62, with 59 seconds left.
A layup by Kemp made it a three-point game and a dunk by Lewis, whose 65-footer forced the second overtime against Iona, made it 67-62 at the 0:24 mark.
Lewis made 11 of 15 free throws, as the Red Foxes made 25 of 37 to Loyola's 12 of 26 (46.2 percent).
Erik Etherly led Loyola (17-9, 9-5) with 22 points.
