UTSA defeats San Jose State 67-49
LAS VEGAS -- Jeromie Hill had 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead UTSA to a 67-49 win over San Jose State in the first round of the Western Athletic Conference tournament Tuesday night.
Kannon Burrage scored 20 points for the ninth-seeded Roadrunners (9-21). Hill was 8 of 15 from the field for the game, and Burrage was 8 of 14. Edrico McGregor added 14 points, and Michael Hale III had 10 points and five assists.
UTSA led 28-16 at halftime and never trailed. Both teams had 13 turnovers and UTSA only outrebounded the Spartans 37-36. But the Roadrunners shot 50 percent from the field for the game, while the Spartans shot 32 percent.
LaVanne Pennington had 21 points for the No. 8 seed Spartans (9-20). Chris Cunningham had 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds.
UTSA moves on to play top-seed Louisiana Tech in the Western Athletic Conference quarterfinals on Thursday.
