Linebacker Josh Banderas charged in theft of bikes
LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska linebacker Josh Banderas and a member of the men's track team face felony charges in connection with the thefts of seven bicycles on campus.
Sgt. Douglas Petersen said Tuesday that university police received a report of two individuals using bolt cutters to remove bikes from racks and loading the bikes into a pickup about 5 p.m. Monday. Lincoln police stopped the pickup near campus and arrested Banderas and Lucas Keifer.
Banderas and Keifer are charged with possession of burglary tools and theft by unlawful taking. Each was released on a $3,500 bond.
The athletic department said in a statement that administrators and coaches are aware of the incident and have no comment.
Petersen said Banderas and Keifer were cooperative, with one telling an officer stealing the bikes was "bone-headed."
