Brown excuses Taylor from spring practice
AUSTIN -- Texas coach Mack Brown has excused running back Ramonce Taylor from spring football so he can focus on academics.
"I felt like he needed to focus on his academic work," Brown said. "He can now go work with (football academic adviser) Brian Davis and his staff. We want him to have full focus on that, and we want him to understand it's important for us that he do his work."
Brown said Taylor remains in good academic standing but needs to know school is the top priority if he plans on suiting up this season.
Taylor scored 15 touchdowns last season, including a 30-yard scoring run in the Rose Bowl against Southern Cal, which Texas won 41-38. The win gave Texas its first outright national championship since 1969.
