Howard 56, Savannah St. 9
WASHINGTON -- Aquanius Freeman carried 13 times for 212 yards and two touchdowns as Howard routed winless Savannah State 56-9 Saturday.
Freeman amassed the highest rushing total for the Bison (3-1, 2-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) since Antoine Rutherford's 230 against Norfolk State in 2003.
Randy Liggins, who was forced out of Howard's win over Norfolk State last week by back spasms, completed 9 of 13 passes for 85 yards and carried 10 times for 70 yards, including second-quarter touchdowns of 12 and 29 yards.
The Tigers (0-4, 0-2) didn't score until Preston McCarthy's 33-yard field goal on the first half's final play made it 28-3.
Howard quickly padded its lead to 35-3 in the third quarter when Devin Rollins returned a blocked Savannah State punt 23 yards for a touchdown.
The Bison sacked Tigers' quarterbacks Victorian Hardison and Antonio Bostick five times and limited them to 166 yards on 16-of-39 passing.
