Gardner-Webb defeats Austin Peay 72-62 in Cancun
CANCUN, Mexico -- Donta Harper scored 21 points to lead Gardner-Webb to a 72-62 victory over Austin Peay on Wednesday afternoon in their division title game of the Cancun Challenge.
Harper had a team high-eight rebounds and led the Bulldogs (4-3) in assists with four.
Max Landis scored 16 points, including two 3-pointers. Tyler Strange and Jerome Hill each added 11.
There were several ties and lead changes in the game. The Governors led 29-27 at halftime, but a 3-point shot by Landis at the 12:49 mark put the Bulldogs up 43-42. They would go on to keep the lead.
Travis Betran scored 18 points, including four 3-pointers, for the Governors (2-3). Chris Horton added 10. Chris Freeman had eight points and seven rebounds.
Austin Peay shot 40.4 percent from the field for the game. The Bulldogs shot 45.2 percent.
Gardner-Webb participated in the Mayan Division.
