SAN JOSE, Calif. -- San Jose State cornerback Bene Benwikere was released from a hospital late Friday night after sustaining a concussion in the Spartans' loss to Utah State.

Benwikere was injured making a tackle on D.J. Tialavea midway through the third quarter. Spartans linebacker Christian Tago struck Benwikere while also trying to tackle Tialavea.

Benwikere's helmet flew off and he lay motionless for several minutes while medical staff attended to him. He was secured to a stretcher, a brace placed on his neck and taken off the field on a cart. He was taken to San Jose Valley Medical Center.
