MONROE, La. -- Louisiana-Monroe coach Todd Berry says starting senior quarterback Kolton Browning is out indefinitely with a torn quad muscle and likely will miss the rest of the season.

Browning, the Warhawks' career passing leader, was hurt when he was sacked and fumbled in the third quarter of ULM's 31-14 loss to Tulane on Saturday night.

Berry says sophomore Brayle Brown will make his first start Thursday night when the Warhawks play their Sun Belt Conference opener, a nationally televised game against Western Kentucky.

Browning, who helped ULM earn an invitation to the Independence Bowl last season, has passed for 9,051 yards in his career, surpassing Steven Jyles' previous record of 8,987 yards from 2002-05.

The Warhawks have dropped two straight to fall to 2-3.
