PITTSBURGH -- Brian St. Pierre was moved from the Pittsburgh Steelers' practice squad to their 53-man roster and will be quarterback Charlie Batch's backup Thursday night against Miami.

Batch will start because Ben Roethlisberger had an appendectomy on Sunday and will miss at least one game.

To make room for St. Pierre, cornerback Chidi Iwuoma was released.

Iwuoma, a five-year veteran, was one of the Steelers' special teams captains last season, when he made 19 tackles. He has been recovering from a concussion.

St. Pierre, a one-time Steelers No. 3 quarterback, re-signed with the team on Monday after being cut by the Baltimore Ravens last weekend. He signed with the Ravens last season and was on the active roster for their final four games.
