Bengals' Zimmer interviews for Dolphins job

MIAMI -- While the Miami Dolphins await a decision from Jeff Fisher, they're interviewing other candidates for their head-coaching job.

Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer completed an interview Tuesday. The Dolphins also have interviewed Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin, Chicago Bears special teams coordinator Dave Toub, and Todd Bowles, who was Miami's interim coach for the final three games this season after Tony Sparano was fired.

The Dolphins planned to interview Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey, but he accepted an offer to become the Jacksonville Jaguars' head coach.

Fisher remains the top choice. The former Tennessee Titans coach interviewed Jan. 3, and the Dolphins are waiting for him to choose between them and the St. Louis Rams.

Zimmer has been an NFL defensive coordinator for 12 years and joined the Bengals in 2008. They made a surprising run to the playoffs this season, when Zimmer's defense ranked seventh in yards allowed.

Fisher completed a second interview with St. Louis on Sunday, then went home to Nashville to decide his future, the Rams said. It was unclear which way he was leaning.

Fisher has by far the highest profile among those interviewed by Miami. He coached the Titans franchise for 17 years and led Tennessee to the 2000 Super Bowl. He stepped down a year ago as the league's longest-tenured coach and sat out this season.

The Dolphins went 6-10 in 2011 and missed the playoffs for the ninth time in the past 10 years.
