NEW YORK -- Comments on the Seattle Seahawks by the AP Pro32 panel (ranking in parentheses):

---

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (15)

Chris Berman (ESPN, 13) -- Whole NFC West over .500.

Clifton Brown (Sporting News, 13) -- Physical defense is the core of this team, led by rookie sack-machine Bruce Irvin.

Cris Collinsworth (NBC Sports, 17)

Rich Gannon (CBS Sports/SiriusXM NFL Radio, 19) -- Good defense, good running game and shaky passing game.

Bob Glauber (Newsday, 15) -- Russell Wilson gets all the attention, but it's Seattle's defense that's behind their early-season success. Another terrific job, this time against Cam Newton.

Rick Gosselin (Dallas Morning News, 15) -- The Seahawks are surviving with a rookie quarterback thanks to the NFL's top-ranked defense.

Clark Judge (CBSSports.com, 13) -- Great defense. Terrific running back. And a rookie quarterback I don't trust. Add them up, and what do you have? A team playing for second in the NFC West.

Ira Kaufman (Tampa Tribune, 17) -- The NFL's No. 1 defense has eased the burden of rookie QB Russell Wilson.

Pat Kirwan (SiriusXM NFL Radio/CBSSports.com, 14) -- The Seahawk defense is nasty. The goal line stand against the Panthers was impressive. A little more from the QB position and they are making the playoffs.

John Lynch (Fox Sports, 14) -- This team plays tough and their defense keeps them in most games. They need to find a way to generate more points offensively.

Alex Marvez (Foxsports.com, 15) -- One of the things I didn't expect last Sunday -- Seahawks rookie quarterback Russell Wilson outperforming Carolina's Cam Newton in a 16-12 road win.

Dan Pompei (Chicago Tribune, 16) -- Being the worst team in the NFL's best division isn't so bad, if that's what the Seahawks are.
