Jets' Keller, Tebow uncertain vs. Jaguars
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- New York Jets tight end Dustin Keller sat out practice for the second straight day with a sprained left ankle, leaving his status for the team's game at Jacksonville on Sunday uncertain.
Backup quarterback Tim Tebow was limited for the second straight day Thursday with two broken ribs, and might not be able to play against his hometown Jaguars.
"I'm still not ready to say I'm comfortable with him (playing) right now," coach Rex Ryan said. "We'll see how it goes."
Keller, the Jets' second-leading receiver with 28 catches, was hurt in New York's 7-6 victory over Arizona on Sunday.
"The fact he hasn't practiced in two days, I know he's getting better, so we'll see," Ryan said. "I'm not willing or ready to rule him out, certainly, but this is the second day that he's missed. But, I know that he's getting substantially better."
Keller, a free agent after this season, has struggled with injuries this year. He led the Jets in receptions the last two seasons, but has not been healthy enough this season to be a consistent weapon in the offense. Keller missed four games early in the season with a hamstring injury.
The Jets' receiving corps could be a bit short-handed against the Jaguars if Keller can't play since wide receiver Clyde Gates is unlikely to play after sustaining a concussion against New England on Thanksgiving night and rookie Stephen Hill was limited Thursday with a knee injury.
Hill missed practice Wednesday after being hurt against the Cardinals, so his return to the practice field was a promising sign. He has 21 catches for 252 yards and leads the team with three touchdown receptions.
"I don't think (the injury) was that big, but we held him out (Wednesday) and he's doing really well," Ryan said.
Running back Joe McKnight (ankle, ribs), guard Brandon Moore (hip) and defensive tackles Damon Harrison (ankle) and Sione Po'uha (back) were all limited. Special teams coordinator Mike Westhoff expected McKnight to be active and return kickoffs against the Jaguars.
