BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Buffalo Sabres have signed forward John Scott to a one-year contract on the first day of the NHL's free agency period.
Listed at 6-foot-8 and 270 pounds, the 29-year-old Scott split last season between Chicago and the New York Rangers. He finished with just one assist in 35 games.
Undrafted out of Michigan Tech, Scott broke into the NHL during the 2008-09 season with the Minnesota Wild. Overall, he has a goal and four assists, and 236 penalty minutes in 146 career games.
General manager Darcy Regier said Scott's size and toughness will be valuable additions.
