NAU picked by U.S. Olympic Committee to participate in awareness effort
MESA, Ariz. -- The U.S. Olympic Committee has chosen Northern Arizona University to participate in a national effort to promote awareness of Olympic and Paralympic sports.
The other five participants are based in Alabama, Illinois, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and Texas.
They will host committee initiatives and events, and work with schools in their states to educate the public.
NAU, based in Flagstaff, is one of nine official Olympic training sites in the country.
Since it was created in 1994, NAU's Center for High Altitude Training has worked with Flagstaff to host international Olympic sports teams.
More than 4,500 athletes and coaches have trained at the center.
