CANBERRA, Australia -- Global miner BHP Billiton is denying it violated anti-corruption laws through its sponsorship of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
The Australian Financial Review newspaper reported on Wednesday that the U.S. Justice Department and Australian police are investigating transactions relating to its sponsorship.
The Anglo-Australian company says it has been cooperating with authorities conducting the investigation.
Its statement says, "We believe our Olympics activities complied with all applicable law."
The newspaper reported the investigation had discovered "suspicious transactions that had been recorded as legitimate business payments" by BHP Billiton.
