SAO PAULO -- Rio de Janeiro Olympic organizers say they have the needed construction permits to begin building the golf course for the 2016 Games, but a separate land dispute remains a threat.

The Olympic organizing committee says Thursday the permits allow "construction work to begin as scheduled." But there is still no final decision on the court case involving two entrepreneurs who claim ownership of the land.

One of the owners has said he doesn't want a golf course built in the area. There is no timetable on when the case will be settled.

Rio organizers say "the course will be built by the land owner recognized by the Rio de Janeiro Land Registry. There is no court decision preventing the owner from building the course at the site."
