Ryan Villopoto races to 4th Daytona victory
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Ryan Villopoto raced to his fourth AMA Supercross victory at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday night, beating Ken Roczen by 12.632 seconds.
Villopoto, the Kawasaki rider from Poulsbo, Wash., has three victories in the first 10 450SK races this season. The three-time defending series champion leads the standings, 28 points ahead of Ryan Dungey.
Villopoto led all 20 laps, keeping the lead after putting his bike down with seven laps to go.
"Whenever you have a fall like that, all that's running through your mind is, `Don't stall the bike and get up as quick as you can and take off," Villopoto said. "Luckily, I had a nice lead and I was able to get up and regroup."
Dungey was third, followed by Broc Tickle and Andrew Short.
Blake Baggett won the 250SX Eastern Regional race, leading a Kawasaki podium sweep.
Adam Cianciarulo, from nearby Port Orange, was second, 16.748 seconds back, and Martin Davalos finished third. Honda's Blake Wharton was fourth, followed by teammate Justin Bogle.
The 17-year-old Cianciarulo, a two-time winner in the first four races, leads the season standings, seven points ahead of Davalos. Baggett is third, 15 points back.
