Women's downhill training in Cortina canceled
CORTINA D'AMPEZZO, Italy -- Organizers in Italy have canceled Thursday's downhill training session for this weekend's women's World Cup race because of forecasts of heavy snow.
Lindsey Vonn will aim for her first victory in more than a month. She returned to the circuit last weekend after a three-week break because of illness.
World Cup rules require at least one official training session to be held before a downhill race. The weather is expected to improve on Friday, when another training session is scheduled in Cortina d'Ampezzo.
The weekend features a downhill race Saturday and super-G race Sunday.
Vonn has six career wins and 13 podium finishes in Cortina, including her first nine years ago.
