Austrian snowboarders dominate World Cup in Sochi
SOCHI, Russia -- Andreas Prommegger led an Austrian 1-2 in the men's parallel giant slalom and teammate Marion Kreiner won the women's event at the snowboard World Cup on the Sochi Olympics course on Thursday.
Prommenger dominated both runs in the final over Ingemar Walder to score his third World Cup victory this season. Rok Flander of Slovenia was 0.35 seconds ahead of Switzerland's Kaspar Fluetsch in the small final for third.
Former world champion and Olympic bronze medalist Kreiner edged Amelie Kober of Germany by four-hundredths of a second to claim her third career World Cup victory.
Ariane Lavigne of Canada dominated both of her runs for third place against Valeriya Tsoy of Kazakhstan to secure her first career World Cup podium.
Parallel slalom events were scheduled for Friday.
