Levski Sofia to appeal against Bardon red card
SOFIA, Mar 31 - Levski Sofia will appeal against French midfielder Cedric Bardon's sending off during Thursday's UEFA Cup quarter-final, first leg with Schalke 04.
Bardon was dismissed for a second bookable offence 10 minutes before halftime by English referee Mike Riley allowing the Bundesliga side to come back from a goal down to win 3-1.
"I've watched the video many times and it was clear that Bardon did not even touch the Schalke player when he was shown the second yellow card," Levski coach Stanimir Stoilov said on Friday. "It was a wrong decision."
"I do not want to underestimate Schalke's win, they are a very strong team, but I think the sending off pre-determined the issue of the game."
Levski, who are bidding to reach the semi-finals of a European competition for the first time, suffered their only home defeat in the UEFA Cup this season.
They opened the scoring through Daniel Borimirov after just six minutes but second half strikes from Gustavo Varela, Lincoln and Gerald Asamoah wrapped up the victory for Schalke.
