Schaellibaum becomes FC Sion's 22nd coach in eight years
BERN, Switzerland, Oct 6 - Swiss top division side FC Sion have appointed Marco Schaellibaum as their new coach, following the surprise weekend departure of Nestor Clausen.
Clausen, a former World Cup-winning player with Argentina, walked out on the team at halftime of Sunday's 3-1 Swiss Cup win over second division Chaux-de-Fonds.
The 44-year-old coach gave no immediate reason for his decision but has since told Swiss media he was unhappy with what he saw as interference in team matters by club president Christian Constantin.
Schaellibaum, whose contract at second division Concordia Basel expired at the end of last season, will be the club's 22nd coach during Constantin's eight years in charge.
"Schaellibaum is a fighter who is extremely result-orientated," Constantin told Swiss television on Friday. "That is why he is exactly the right man for FC Sion."
