June 22 - Factbox on Mexico ahead of the Copa America:

PAST RECORD

* Runners-up: 1993, 2001

RECENT FORM

* Mexico have played 11 matches this year, up to and including the CONCACAF semi-final against Guadeloupe which they won 1-0 to set up a meeting with the United States in Sunday's final. They have lost to the United States, Honduras and Paraguay and won the other games.

COACH

* Hugo Sanchez is widely regarded as the finest player Mexico has ever produced. He spent much of his career with Real Madrid and was five-times leading scorer in the Spanish League.

* Sanchez's coaching career consists of two spells with Pumas UNAM and a very brief stint with Necaxa. He won two Mexican championships in his second stint with Pumas but resigned one year later after a string of bad results.

* During his Pumas coaching days, Sanchez repeatedly poured criticism on the Mexican federation and constantly criticised his predecessor and bitter personal rival Ricardo La Volpe.

* Before being given the job, Sanchez repeatedly said he was capable of winning the World Cup for Mexico.

LEADING PLAYER

* Andres Guardado, 20, is already being tipped as one of Mexico's brightest hopes for the future. He plays on the left side of midfield and combines speed with dribbling ability.

* Guardado made his professional debut for Atlas in 2005 and his international debut only four months later. He has recently been linked with several Italian Serie A clubs.

OTHER

* Unlike his predecessor Ricardo La Volpe, who enjoyed chopping and changing tactical formations, Sanchez is a staunch 4-4-2 man.

* Mexico are not part of the South American Football Confederation but take part in the Copa America by invitation. They played in the 1993, 1995, 1997, 1999 and 2004 tournaments.

* Mexico have good records against South American teams. They beat Argentina at the last Copa America and Brazil in the 2005 Confederations Cup. They also took Argentina to extra-time before losing in the second round at the World Cup.
