Ronaldo's hat trick boosts Madrid in Champs League
LONDON -- Real Madrid took charge of the Champions League's toughest group thanks to a hat trick from Cristiano Ronaldo, while AC Milan kick-started its campaign with a rare away win at Zenit St. Petersburg.
Ronaldo had his second straight three-goal match to earn Madrid a 4-1 victory at Ajax in Group D, with Karim Benzema scoring the other for the Spanish champions from an amazing overhead kick.
Manchester City is languishing at just one point from two games in that group after a 1-1 draw with Borussia Dortmund courtesy of Mario Balotelli's late penalty kick.
Milan needed a late own goal to seal a 3-2 win at Zenit in Group C and is two points behind Malaga, which won 3-0 over Anderlecht.
Arsenal and FC Porto also have perfect starts after wins Wednesday.
