IAAF says 2 Turkish athletes charged with doping
LONDON -- The IAAF says Olympic 1,500-meter champion Asli Cakir Alptekin of Turkey has been charged with doping and could lose her gold medal.
The IAAF says another Turkish athlete, European indoor 60-meter champion Nevin Yanit, has been suspended for doping.
IAAF spokesman Nick Davies says Alptekin was charged based on abnormal blood values from her biological passport, which tracks variations in an athlete's blood profile for signs of cheating.
Davies says Yanit had "multiple positive findings" in targeted IAAF drug tests.
Both cases have been referred to the Turkish athletic federation for prosecution. Pending a ruling, both athletes are ineligible to compete.
Davies says "if they are convicted, they will be stripped of those medals."
