PHOENIX -- Candace Parker had 21 points, eight rebounds and five assists to lead the Los Angeles Sparks to their fifth straight win, an 88-76 victory Sunday over the Phoenix Mercury.
Nneka Ogwumike added 16 points and 13 rebounds for the Sparks, who have beaten their last five opponents by an average of 18.6 points a game after a 5-4 start.
Phoenix (8-7) played its second straight game without No. 1 draft pick Brittney Griner, who has a sore left knee injured June 6 against Minnesota.
Los Angeles took control early with a 13-point run in the first quarter and then held off Phoenix rallies in the second and third quarters.
Diana Taurasi had 23 points, including three 3-pointers, to lead the Mercury, who have lost three straight after winning five in a row.
SUN 86, SILVER STARS 84
UNCASVILLE, Conn. -- Tina Charles had 20 points and 10 rebounds while Allison Hightower scored 23 points to help the Sun rally in the fourth quarter to beat the Silver Stars.
Allison Hightower had 23 points and five rebounds for the Sun (4-9), who had lost six of their last seven games prior to Sunday.
Kara Lawson, playing her second game since returning from a knee injury, came off the bench and had 14 points and six assists for Connecticut.
Jia Perkins had 23 points and seven rebounds for the Silver Stars (4-10) and Danielle Robinson added 10 points and eight assists.
Connecticut fell behind 67-59 with over seven minutes left in the game before going on a 17-4 run. Hightower concluded the run with a 3-pointer to push the Sun ahead 76-71 with over four minutes remaining.
STORM 73, DREAM 65
SEATTLE -- Tanisha Wright scored 13 of her 21 points in the second half and Camille Little added 19 points and 10 rebounds as the Storm rallied to beat the short-handed Dream.
Shekinna Stricklen added 10 points for the Storm in her first start. Seattle (6-8) had lost five of six.
Rookie Alex Bentley scored 16 and Erika de Souza had 16 points and 14 rebounds for Atlanta (10-3), which only had eight players available. The Dream were missing Angel McCoughtry (strained Achilles, 19.8 points per game), Sancho Lyttle (foot, 14.3) and Tiffany Hayes (knee, 10.8).
