Monday Night Football Movie Trailers

We watch a lot of movie trailers, so we decided to apply the concept to Monday Night Football.

As a wise man once said, "Pretty much."

Ya ever get bored and watch the trailer for The Karate Kid? That's pretty much our entire existence, so we decided to take the concept of "movie trailers" and extend it to the concept of Monday Night Football. Cue beer commercial voiceover guy: "Two great tastes that go great together!" Enjoy.

MNF Movie Trailer 12/22: Frozen Football
What are "Monday Night Football Movie Trailers?" Say what you will about the Bears-Packers rivalry. Historic? Certainly. Contentious? You bet. But most of all, it's freaking cold. When you consider the wind-chill factor, the temperature at kickoff tonight will be -6°F. That's nothing new to these two franchises, but it certainly makes the prospect of facing Brian Urlacher and A.J. Hawk just that much more daunting. Thus, espnthemag.com humbly presents, Frozen Football. Tonight, be sure to check out The Mag's latest For Love or the Game, in which Packers WR Greg Jennings finds out who knows him better, his wife Nicole or teammate James Jones.

MNF Movie Trailer 12/15: Escape from Philadelphia
What are "Monday Night Football Movie Trailers?" Philadelphia is legendary for being less-than-hospitable to visiting sports teams. (Heck, it's legendary for being less-than-hospitable to its home teams from time to time.) So, when the Browns head into Philly tonight, don't think there isn't anything at stake. They might not make it home to their beloved Cleve in one piece.

MNF Movie Trailer 12/08: Too Old
Ya know all about the important football themes in tonight's Monday Night Football clash between the Panthers and Bucs: in all likelihood, the winner gets the No. 2 seed (and a bye) in the NFC playoffs. Awesome. Here's what you probably don't know: if you made a movie about Warrick Dunn, what would the theme be? (If you said "The Piano with Holly Hunter," just let yourself out the back.) We use the Monday Night Football Movie Trailers concept to bring you Too Old, a portrait of a man who just wants to be breaking ankles at FSU again.

MNF Movie Trailer: A Song of the (AFC) South
Quite frankly, tonight's Monday Night Football battle between the Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars could be one of the worst prime-time clashes of the year. Three things you should realize, though: (1) at the beginning of the season, this looked awesome (remember: Jags were 11-5 last year and the Texans, well, there's this); (2) it is the first Monday night game in football-mad Houston in years, so the atmosphere should be intense and (3) consider it Steve Slaton's national coming-out party (if you don't consider that to be any number of games at WVU over the years). Now, via Monday Night Movie Trailers, we present A Song of the (AFC) South, which puts a rather unique spin on the matchup.

Monday Night Movie Trailers: .500 (Packers vs. Saints 11/24/08)
The Packers and Saints have identical 5-5 records, but somehow the boys from Wisconsin are one game off the pace in the NFC North, while the Saints are mired at the bottom of the NFC South (the Falcons, in third, are 7-4). In a nod to 300, we turn Monday Night Movie Trailers to .500, an epic story about fighting for, uh, the chance to be a little bit better than average.

MNF 11/17: The Mentalists
Take a look at some of the top QBs, statistically-speaking, in the NFL right now. The numbers are awesome, for sure, but there's one thing typically missing (not judging, just saying): most top-flight NFL signal callers didn't go to elite academic institutions. For example: Drew Brees? He's a Purdue feller. (Most recent U.S. News and World Report ranking: 66.) Super Bowl champ Eli Manning? U.S. News and World Report lists Ole Miss as "Tier 3." Hear us clearly: these guys are smart; it's hard to run an NFL team! However, tonight's Monday Night Football game (8:30pm, ESPN) legitimately features two quarterbacks from schools with huge academic reps to complement their football ones: Brady Quinn from Notre Dame and Trent Edwards from Stanford. Via our Monday Night Movie Trailers, check out The Mentalists.

Monday Night Movie Trailers: Mr. Singletary
You could make the argument that tonight's MNF is the least compelling of the season. We scoff at said notion. On one side, you've got the playoff-bound (really?) Arizona Cardinals and their ageless wonder QB, Kurt Warner. On the other side, you've got one of the two biggest franchises-falling-from-grace stories of the NFL this decade, the 49ers (ironically, the other example is also in the Bay Area) and their new head man, Hall of Fame LB Mike Singletary. In keeping with our developing concept of Monday Night Movie Trailers, we bring you (think Joe Clark meets a Coolio song): Mr. Singletary. Enjoy.
