It's a huge night on the college hoops hardwood (Selection Sunday: 33 days away).
Duke hosts Maryland at 7pm on ESPN. Vitale's on the mic, which is good; let's remember for a second that Maryland upset UNC when they were No. 1and that game was AT Chapel Hill. Duke's playing out of their gourd right now (only a close loss to Pitt prevents them from being undefeated). Oh, and the Duke Guy in our office just said, "I'm worried about this. They're due to lose." Exactly.
No. 14 Wisconsin travels to No. 12 Indiana (7pm) in a game that should answer the long-debated query, "Which state bird is more awesome the American Robin (WI) or the Northern Cardinal (IN)?"
No. 17 Connecticut is hosting No. 18 Notre Dame at 7pm on ESPNU. Hasheem Thabeet might be the darkhorse candidate for Big East Player of the Year right now (there's a good story about him in "Linked Lunch," by the way). Luke Harangody, who might be the favorite for Player of the Year, will be banging with him. Should be an "affray" (tomorrow's Word of the Day?) in the post up in Storrs.
Up where they get paid to ball, it's a NBA Finals rematch as Cleveland hosts San Antonio (7pm). Did you miss it the first time? (Probably). Check it out now.
Phoenix at Golden State (9pm)? Probably not the game Shaq wants for his debut with the Suns. Three words on this one: Take the over.
If you're interested in seeing drastic contrast in confined space, check out Knicks at Celtics (7:30pm).
BARTENDER! WITH ICE! (Some of us worked in Bristol before the Mag. We like Neil Everett) Ottawa is No. 1 in the NHL East right now; New Jersey is No. 5. They tussle tonight (7pm). Can you "tussle" on ice? Probably not. It's gonna be a battle, though.
There's no primary tonight, so that's essentially it. But if you want to link politics back to sports, consider "The Arkansas Curse." With McCain and Obama starting to focus on each other, are Clinton and Huckabee essentially done for? And when you factor in that whole Bobby Petrino in, Darren McFadden out thing ... Well, it ain't a good time to be a Hog.
