Legendary former Mount Saint Mary's coach Jim Phelan, one of four NCAA coaches with 800 wins

Today means two things to us: (1.) only one day until the Play-In Game (!!!) and (2.) another Monday Six Clicks, where we bring unrelated things together via the power of the Interwebs. Hey, maybe we could mash up No. 1 and No. 2 today. Yeah! Let's start with Mount St. Mary's, whose legendary former coach Jim Phelan is shown above, and see where we land...

Mount Saint Mary's University:
The school, located in the Catoctin Mountains near Emmitsburg, MD, is the university of record for former hoopster Fred Carter.

Fred Carter:
Carter, an eight-year NBA veteran, often boasts of being "the best player on the worst team in NBA history" for his role with the 1973 Philadelphia 76ers.

1973 Philadelphia 76ers:
The 1973 76ers hold the record for most losses in a season (73), most consecutive losses in one season (20), and might have had the worst coach in NBA history in Roy Rubin, who went 4-47 in 51 games before being fired (he never got another job).

Roy Rubin:
Rubin, who once said of his Sixers run that "I'm a heavy guy and I was losing weight, but not for the right reasons," had done well before his tenure in Philly: he spent 10 successful years guiding Long Island University.

Long Island University:
The mascot of LIU? The blackbird.

Blackbird:
In classical Greek folklore, according to our friends at Wikipedia, the blackbird was seen as a "sacred, yet destructive" bird and was said to die if it consumed pomegranate.

Pomegranate:
Interestingly, pomegranate is sometimes referred to as "Food of the Dead." Which leads us back to .... Mount St. Mary's. Who, upon a potential victory in the Play-In game, would be facing overall No. 1 seed UNC in the first round. Talk about full circle! Hey, they'll always have Fred Carter.
