REPORTING FROM THE JOCK-OSPHERE

On a break from hair modeling, Chris Cooley blogs regularly.
[Ed's Note: In the long view of the sports media industry, it's still a relatively new concept that athletes, agents, executives, and yes, mascots, could circumvent us and tell their own stories…instantly, on blogs. We say, fantastic—but we're going to cover what they're writing.]
It seemed every sports blogger chimed in on the now infamous Buzz Bissinger explosion from Costas Now. That includes Redskins tight end Chris Cooley, who matched Bissinger's vulgarity with some of his own.
"I finally watched the Buzz blow up," Cooley writes. "Buzz, great job showing that you aren't easily intimidated by us bloggers. If you don't want the s*** pissed out of you anymore, you better check out my writing. I wouldn't want to 'dumb down America' with any of my posts."
He had some words for the WWL's Tony Kornheiser, too [Ed's note: we love you Tony!]:
"PTI talked about my last Yahoo post and I would like to say thanks for not talking too much s*** about me on ESPN, he writes. "I mean come on Tony, I make it to the Pro Bowl and the least I can get out of you is 'a mid-round pick'' with a load of sarcasm. Was that because you 'hate' bloggers?"
It's somewhat fascinating to see Cooley aligned with "us" bloggers now, only as it concerns his future. Will it include media? Studio analysis? Blogging?
Curtis Granderson: Nobody Told Me
Jim Leyland threatened lineup changes earlier this week for his Detroit Tigers. It seemed everyone knew…except the players themselves. So sayeth Curtis Granderson:
"Before the day began, I received about 5-10 text messages and phone calls asking if I was still leading off in yesterday's game," he writes. "I responded with my normal response of "I won't know until I get to the stadium and see the lineup." By the fourth message, I started asking why everyone was asking me that question. They all started saying that it was all over the papers and radio that the Tigers were making drastic changes to the lineup and that I might be batting third. All this was news to me, and I was wondering how fans and friends were getting wind of this before I and other teammates even knew about it."
Granderson, as of now, is still in the leadoff spot. So seriously: stop texting the guy.
Curt Schilling: Illuminating "Recovery"
Curt Schilling, he of Scythehands Voxslayer fame, has been on the DL all season recovering from a right shoulder injury. The injury has not kept him from blogging. He is keeping us informed on his progress:
"Well that day is here, finally," he writes. "Today I'll be 'allowed' to play catch for the first time since January. A lot has happened and there is probably even more left to do, but it's a step. … As we were talking through things the other day a point I was trying to make to anyone involved was this. Not only do I need to get moving and throwing now, but everyone just assumes that we do X, which leads to Y, and we end up at Z. The 'Z' being me pitching again. The thing is, we're good, real good. I not only need to get healthy, but I need to be good as well …"
Who needs an injury report?

"Ozzie's mouth is a good backup space heater."
Mark Buehrle: Heating Up the Space
After a rough outing in Wednesday's loss to the Twins, White Sox pitcher Mark Buehrle took a bat to a space heater in the dugout. Hey, it happens. But, as Scott Reifert, vice president of communications for the Sox tells us, he might have been wise to use someone else's lumber.
"I know this isn't Craig's List or Ebay, but anyone out there need a used outdoor space heater? Decent condition, slightly 'loved,' he writes. "Best part of Mark's bat-to-heater explosion last night was that he used one of (Juan) Uribe's bats. Juan is very, very protective of his bats and keeps them all down at the far end of the dugout away from everyone else's lumber. So the idea that Mark grabbed whatever was nearest to him -- in this case Juan's bat -- to inflict his damage is classic."
John Pyper-Ferguson: Pop Culture Dropper
As the next round of the NHL playoffs gear up, John-Pyper Ferguson—not sure who that is? Peep his imdb profile—is making his picks over on his NHL.com blog. And well, just look at how many movies he can string together in his Flyers-Penguins preview.
"While the Philly's have Mr. Be-like-Iron minding the net, the Birds have Fleury, and just like in the Hitchcock film there are just too darn many of them," he writes. "Since the Flyers failed in their attempts to draft Tippi Hedren, they will be overwhelmed. A murder of …. of… does anyone know what you call a lot of swarming Penguins? Sid the Kid, Malkin, Hossa and the rest of the colony are moving that puck with a never-before-seen creative flair. Surf's Up! It's March of the Penguins and they will preserve the egg, and yes, have Happy Feet as they go on to skate for Lord Stanley. Yes, a fat lady will sing in Philly but it won't be Kate Smith."
Ryan Zimmerman: Look Ma, I Can Blog
Comcast Sportsnet in Washington D.C. has provided a platform for Ryan Zimmerman of the Nationals to get his blog on. An excerpt from his inaugural post:
"The new stadium is fantastic!!!" he writes. "If you have not been out there yet with the weather getting nicer, please come. It's an incredible ballpark. It's been so nice to see good size crowds. It really is fun to play before a loud crowd that is into the game."
And:
"I hated to see Wizards lose in the playoffs. I went to a lot of games this past off season and it was so much fun. Hopefully, they won't have the injuries they had this season and will be able to go deeper into the playoffs next season."
What an upbeat guy.
Baron's Staring Contest
Baron Davis, no longer in the playoffs, and less bearded than usual, is in the staring business now. Check it out HERE.
