BREAKFAST WITH INDY CAR: AN UPDATE
[Ed's note: Last week, The Magazine sat down for breakfast with Scott Dixon, Dan Wheldon and Ryan Briscoe, i.e. the front row of the 92nd Indianapolis 500. With the race now in the books, we're pretty happy with who we rubbed elbows with: Dixon won the race, Wheldon led for over 25 laps and Briscoe was involved in one of the central storylines: an incident with Danica Patrick that ultimately pushed both of them out of contention. It sounds like the beginning of a bad joke: A Kiwi, an Aussie and a Brit walk into a crowded French bistro…
But no, it's just another edition of 34th and Madison. This Sunday, pole-sitter Scott Dixon and his linemates, Dan Wheldon and Ryan Briscoe will sit on the front row of the Indianapolis 500 (ABC, 1 ET, in case you were wondering). But earlier this week, they sat down with ESPN The Magazine for breakfast at New York City's noisiest cafe, Pigalle.
No one washed down their meal with a tall, cool glass of milk or predicted a winner beyond saying "the guy who finishes first." But Dixon (croque-madame), Wheldon (croque-madame) and Brisco (croissant) did let us in on a few Indy secrets when they asked each other questions randomly pulled from a racing helmet.
So, pull up a chair and butter your croissant as we get inside the helmet with the three fastest racers at Indy.
