THE MORNING ... ACCORDING TO US

"Remember what I said last summer? I take it all back. If we lose the Finals though, forget I said this. Then it's all true again."

Hello, Friday! As you prepare for your (hopefully) final day of the work week, why not start by checking out an international bent to the sports world? Below (and above, on the map) you'll find the odds for Portugal to win Euro 2008, some gnarly Australian surfing wipeouts, an odd partnership of Super Mario Brothers 3 and Lupe Fiasco and yes, the obligatory Kobe Bryant story. Although honestly, it isn't what you think. For now, though, to Portugal!

Portugal Lookin' Good
Apparently, Portugal has been installed as a 9-to-1 favorite to win Euro 2008; this is odd because they essentially backed their way into the qualifying group by finishing second behind Poland. But oh yea, they do have Mr. Cristiano Ronaldo in the lineup, so we see where the 9 to 1 is coming from. But seriously, second behind Poland? (Insert Polish joke now.)

Brazil Likes Videogaming
We have no idea why this is fascinating; it just is. Basically, a Brazilian guy made a mix of Super Mario Brothers 3, Level 1 (the mini-castle, naitch) set to Lupe Fiasco's "Superstar." It's 1:34 long and he doesn't even do so well, but we watched the entire thing and were mesmerized. Maybe it's just too early. If you loved Mario, though, give it a whirl.

China's Helping Hand
There's apparently a school in Beijing specifically designed to help Belgian athletes assimilate into Chinese culture while also making them better Olympians. We've got a video report on it right here; it's actually fairly interesting to see Belgian kids play Chinese kids in ping pong. The matches stay competitive, oddly enough.

Wiiiiiiiiiiiiipe Out
New addition to the YouTube family recenty: some of the best wipeouts on the north side of Australia. We don't condone seeing people fall off surfboards while under 20 foot waves normally, but all these people ended up just fine. Honestly, seeing video ripped together of this is fairly exhilarating, which is good for us because we're trapped in an office with nothing more than people.com and proofs of Chad Johnson articles to get us by.

The Kobe Video
With the Lakers back in the NBA Finals, a MVP award on Kobe's mantle and the dream turnaround season now four games from completion, we just had to roll back out the Kobe trashing his teammates in a mall parking lot video. This happened less than a year ago; it seems ages behind us now, eh?

Language Barriers in Horse Racing
Aydee Fic is a horse in Australia that recently won its first race. Fans of Lebanese descent couldn't stop laughing after the race and only now do race organizers know why: Aydee Fic is Arabic for "&$#@ you." The businessman who owns the horse has had to rename him Journey On.
