REPORTING FROM THE JOCK-OSPHERE

Jocks blog. We report. (You decide!)
Scott Reifert: Bloggers Unite!
For those about to blog, we salute you!
The White Sox VP of Communications is amassing a blarmy (blog+army). To what end? They have to figure out how to keep the Twins out of the top spot in the AL Central some how, might as well harness the powers of print. Check out the slideshow from Blog Night III here.
Shaun Alexander: Crazy for My Country
Former NFL MVP running back Shaun Alexander apparently has found more time to blog:
"More than anything, I love what the Olympics represents," he writes. "To see the entire country rally around an athlete or a team is amazing. And I'm really a fanatic when it comes to sporting events involving our country. The patriotism just starts to come out of me and I get fired up. America versus anyone and I'll go all out. Sometimes I have to remind myself when I'm watching that it's just sports but I am crazy for my country."
We in the jock-osphere enjoy your blogging, Shaun. But we'd rather see you taking on linebackers two at a time. Who knows, maybe you could be a Patriot in the NFL, too.
Mark DeRosa: Chatting with Jeff Samardzija
After some football-heavy banter, DeRosa breaks it down for us:
"I'm very impressed with how this guy has come up and been able to fit right in," he writes. "The guy's got ice water in his veins and that's a direct reflection of playing football. It's something that shapes your life. People who've never played football don't understand the bond. You could tell by the play [Friday against St. Louis] in the ninth -- he gave me a huge chest bump when I made the barehanded bunt play. It was right out of catching a touchdown pass, but I was playing against Cornell and he was playing against USC."
Jennie Finch: She Doth Exclaim
The softball beauty, live and direct from Beijing:
"We came back enjoyed the free afternoon took a little nap and watched some TV!" she writes. "Yes, TV! This was a highlight for the day we were able to score our own TV for our apt. Bustos and I ate sunflower seeds while rooting on Women's Field Hockey, they ended in a 2-2 tie with Argentina. They played great…tying it up at the end! We were able to catch some gymnastics and swimming too. Phelps snagged his first Gold and setting a World Record. A great way to set the tone for Team USA. It fired us up hearing the news!"
And then later I went to bed! Yes bed! It was absolutely insane!
Monica Abbott: Pranking President Bush
"Today we had practice," she writes. "Just when I thought it couldn't get any better, President Bush showed up and talked to us, watched us warm up and take BP. And just when I thought that was great our team 'prankster' Laura Berg got the president with her classic, 'Chalk Handprint' on the back, full five fingers and everything! It was awesome. We were all cracking up, he didn't have a clue. But we eventually told him he 'Got Berg-ied', but I think we could have let him walk around all day like that. It was perfectly executed! No bigger prank than on the president, I vote her to the Hall of Fame!"
Between this and those volleyball pictures, Bush is having quite the time over there, no?
Summer Sanders: Business of Bringing Home Gold Medals
Summer likes Swim Team USA's chances:
"Unless I'm just extremely ignorant about the rest of the world's chances in Beijing, I don't think I've ever seen a United States' Swimming Team as strong as this one," she writes. "And maybe that's because I'm so focused on the superstars like Michael Phelps, Katie Hoff, Ryan Locthe, Natalie Coughlin… I really feel like this team is all business. And that business is bringing home gold medals. There will be a few races we won't win, of course, but I cannot remember the last time when we were so heavily favored. So I would use the word dominate as far as my predictions for the U.S. team go."
Careful with Olympic predictions, Summer: Heather Mitts is 0-1 so far.
